Guitar or Bass: Which You Should Pick and Why?

Guitars come in many different types and these differences help determine what they are used for. The most common types of guitar are the bass and guitars. A lot of people mistake the bass for a normal guitar but this is not the case. This guide will highlight the differences between both.

What is a bass guitar?

A bass guitar is a guitar with 4 to 6 strings that are usually thicker than that of a normal guitar. This is because they are specifically made to create low sounds which can be used to support other instruments or add background rhythm. Bassists can use bass guitars to solo and add riffs in a song to make a more audible sound.

The bass guitar is paired with the drum to create loose and when being played with other high pitched instruments such as the guitar.

The bass guitar contains four strings which are the same as the four lower strings of a guitar but are strummed to sound an octave lower than their lead counterpart. The strings contained in the bass guitar are B- E- A- G- D- and C-. These depend on the number of strings in the bass guitar being played. Modern bass guitars have 5 to 6 strings.

While the original bass guitars were 4 stringed instruments. When being played, bass guitars are created to stick to a rhythm to guide the guitarist’s sounds and sound according to the beat.

What is a guitar?

Typically a guitar has between 6 to 7 strings. B strings are one octave lower than that of the bass guitar and range from the low E note to the high E  note.

Guitars are used to play solos and complex riffs during a song they have more flexibility than a bass guitar. guitarists are responsible for adding licks to the song, as well as for playing melodies to add to the rhythm.

Finally, a guitarist adds accents to a song to spice up the melody. When paired with a bass guitar, a guitar can be used to create a three-part harmony in a song.

A guitar can be used to play different styles, such as lead guitar, or rhythm guitar. However, due to the sound produced by the bass guitar, it is mostly used to provide support and additional accents to music because of the low notes it produces.

When also considering the frequency of the notes, the guitar produces a higher reverb than the bass and also a higher frequency.

Roles of both guitars: Which is more important?

When considering the two guitars, none is more important than the other in music. However, the guitar demands more attention because of its high notes and its function as the lead or rhythm guitar. The importance of the bass guitar is downplayed because of its supportive characteristics. However, when creating a perfect harmony the bass guitar is very important because it gives sounds that cannot be produced by a normal lead or rhythm guitar.

When deciding what guitar to play, keep in mind that both are very important and that the only difference. For more information, check Clair de lune here.
